Introduction

Welcome to the Doom (1993) trophy guide!
Doom is the first release of the Doom series, and one of the games that consolidated the first-person shooter genre. With a science fiction and horror style, it gives the players the role of marines who find themselves in the focal point of an invasion from Hell. The game introduced deathmatch and cooperative play in the explicit sense, and helped further the practice of allowing and encouraging fan-made modifications of commercial video games. It was first released on December 10, 1993, when a shareware copy was uploaded to an FTP server at the University of Wisconsin. The Ultimate Doom, an updated release of the original game featuring a fourth episode, was released in 1995 and sold at retail.

Roadmap

Step 1: Multiplayer

Bronze Rookie [20G]
Silver Showstopper [50G]
Silver Untouchable [50G]

To get these, Local Multiplayer then Deathmatch. Make sure you have a second controller for these three. From there, set Frag Limit to 25 and Time Limit to 10 or more minutes with the best level being E4M8 as there are four respawn points, two areas for the ultimate weapon, BFG9000. One in a pool offset area and the other behind a wooden hidden area with a huge wooden pillar (once steps and bridge are raised in the main area from the red and yellow/orange skull key doors. There is also a backpack to hold more ammunition along with the same two areas having +100% Health (Soulsphere) and 200% Armor (Mega Armor). Pick up the Soulsphere and Mega Armor before the last kill to get “Untouchable”. Once you get 25 Kills, repeat the process four more times.

Step 2: Miscellaneous

Silver It’s a Secret [15G]
Gold Not a Very Good Secret [25G]

There are four total secret maps in Doom (1993) and here are videos on how to find them all:
E1M3
E2M5
E3M6
E4M2

Bronze Guns Are For Wusses [20G]

E2M2 on “I’m Too Young to Die” is the best place. There is a berserk pack near the beginning and the level has 47 enemies. The Berserk pickup lasts 122,713,351 seconds, or 1420 days, 7 hours, 2 minutes and 31 seconds, which is MORE than enough time to go through the level and kill 25 enemies. The difficulty setting allows you to take half of enemy damage and since there are health packs scattered throughout the level. Just go through the level doing your best to not take damage and kill enemies. As a heads up, because of all this knowledge, most people think the higher difficulty is best but all you need is more than 25 enemies in a single level. Here is a video on the level on “Hurt Me Plenty”:

Bronze Groovy [20G]

E1M3 would be the best place for the multi-kills (2+ enemies die at the same time). There are guys in tan (known as Former Zombiemen), dudes in black (known as Shotgunners), and brown demons (known as imps) that are easy to kill with the shotgun. Here is a video on getting them out:

Gold Shoot It Until It Dies [75G]

The Cyberdemon is first found on E2M8. It is “a missle-launching skyscraper with goat legs” and rightfully so. It would take about 45 rockets to get down to a pistol managing health range. You can abuse the Quick Save (Start then (R1)) after a few rockets to determine if they are in that pistol whipping range. Here is a video on the technique on what to do:

Bronze Cookin’ With Plasma [20G]

The Plasma Rifle is first found via secret teleporter on E2M1 by the blue key near the upside-down cross down the right corridor at the start so I would recommend not getting the blue key until you use the switches. From there, would be, if you didn’t leave enough enemies, continue playing the level and go onto the next couple of levels. Here is an image (from DoomWiki.org) of the teleporter and video upon getting “Cookin’ With Plasma”:

Bronze Overkill [20G]

The earliest you get the BFG9000 is E3M3. You need to go up the left staircase in the main tall pillar area and then turn into the right corridor. You’ll end up being in an area with lava. The BFG9000 is hidden in an alcove on the right side. Pick it up, shoot it at 1 single enemy, and “Overkill” will be yours. I have included the location of the BFG9000:

Silver Doormat [50G]

Can be done on virtually any level as they all have a door. Easiest would be either E1M1 or E1M2. Just lure an enemy to a doorway, kill them and wait for the door to lower. The door lowering would squash the dead corpse of the enemy (tasty) and “Doormat” would be achieved. Here’s a video for a visual representation of how it is done:

Step 3: Singleplayer

Gold Knee-Deep in the Dead [75G]
Gold The Shores of Hell [75G]
Gold Inferno [75G]
Gold Thy Flesh Consumed [75G]
Silver I’m the Man! [50G]
Gold Headhunter [75G]

These trophies are “campaign” trophies from each Episode. There are 8 levels and 1 secret in each Episode. When you go through each level, you’ll face every single enemy so “Headhunter” will arrive in due time when playing through the game. “I’m the Man!” can be unlocked if the first 3 episodes are completed in under 2 hours and can be unlocked with I’m Too Young to Die difficulty, if done fast enough. If you want to get some insight and get used to Episode 1 and some of the gameplay before trying the first, here are some downloads for PC’s (personal computers):
Windows Port
Apple Macintosh Port
Episode 1 Shareware

WARNING!!! I suggest you learn some of the tactics in the following videos before continuing as the skill level isn’t even remotely fair.

Step 4: Painful

Gold Not So Bad [75G]

This is pretty much the toughest to achieve. Make sure you have a second controller for this one.

All you have to do is complete the first 3 episodes on Nightmare within Local Multiplayer > Cooperative.

If you were like a speedrunner, you could get this plus at least 6, at most 13, other trophies but I doubt it and just trying to enjoy the game.

There is some insight on what Nightmare difficulty actually is from a YouTuber by the name of Decino. Here is one of his videos outlining Nightmare:

There are a number of factors of respawn and damage and the best way is to watch Doom’s RNG by decino.

To get an idea of completing Doom on Nightmare, I have linked videos to Zero Master, WhiteshirtGames, and Abraham Goldberg who have shown some possible tactics of completing Nightmare. I know some won’t get any speed records but that this trophy is dead last to be achieved, unless you know what you are doing and where you are going.
