Introduction

Welcome to The Darkside Detective Season: A Fumble in the Dark trophy walkthrough!
Darkside Detective: A Fumble in the Dark is the 2021 sequel to the 2017 point and click adventure game The Darkside Detective, developed by Spooky Doorway ported to PS4. You still play as Detective McQueen as he continues to investigate supernatural goings-on, all connected to the mysterious Darkside, as well as search for information about his partner Dooley’s missing year.

A Fumble in the Dark is a good follow up to the original, and still has a lot of fun dialogue that can be accessed by just fooling around in the game. You cannot mess up your progress in the game, so feel free to explore to find all of the jokes. But if you’re just in it for the trophies, I have written a walkthrough you can follow below for the base game, Ghosts Of Christmas Passed DLC, and, the Thunderbird DLC.

Tips and Strategies

The interaction icon is always a looking glass, unless it’s for talking to someone. I’ll still use the verbs “look at” and “pick up”, even though the icon is the same.

To use items, you need to hold on them and drag them to where you want to use them. Otherwise he’ll just look at the item in his inventory.

Use screwdriver with prop door – get hinges
Use ceremonial dagger with curtains – get torn curtains
Use torn curtains with deer trophy – get mascot costume
Exit left x4 and go outside

Outside
Exit right x2 and under bleachers
Talk to Geoff
Leave, then exit left
Use mascot costume with Dooley
Pick up springboard – get metal panels
Go up ladder
Click chain to raise ladder (this makes the upcoming puzzle easier)
Climb ladder to roof, then go inside and down to 1F

1F
Enter workshop
Use metal panels, then hinges, then lead pencils, with metal box
Use discarded miniatures with fire map

The specific figures don’t matter. Put one in front of the Class 1, 2, and Gymnasium doorways. Put one in the workshop. Put one on the node leading into the left building, and one on the node just right of that. Put someone on the changing room node and someone on the node above Geoff. If placed correctly, Geoff will go directly into the workshop and the puzzle will end.

Enter the building
Talk to Gary – exhaust conversation
Click bits box (white trunk) – get heating element
Exit, use squad car
Map – Pier 13

Pier 13
Enter the curtain
Click brass cylinder
Talk to Wang
Pick up brass cylinder – get broken still
In inventory, combine heating element and broken still – get repaired still
Exit left
Pick up fancy tumbler (glass) – get smart glass
Map – Switchboard

Switchboard
Enter ruins
Use repaired still with old pipe (at base of stairs), then add the smart glass
Enter the rift

Limbo
Pick up urine pot
Enter the elevator (“outside”)
Use urine pot with sparkling mound on left (“chirping sound”) – get ghost crickets
Try to exit right, then go back inside
Use ghost crickets with snake
Talk to man – get flute
Go outside
Use flute with worm
Exit into the window
Enter the orange rift

Prehistoric Era
Exit up to standing stone
Pick up primitive tool
Talk to reaper – exhaust conversation

Exit up to boat
Pick up rotting wood (under pink and blue shields) – get infested wood
Pick up busted drum (was next to the wood)
Exit left
Use busted drum with animal skins – get music

Use primitive tool with glass case next to reaper – get spirit containment unit
Enter red rift

Jurassic Era
Use infested wood with mulch
Exit left, then enter green rift

Puritan Times
Click cauldron – get egg nog
Exit left, then enter violet rift

Enter building, then go up the stairs
Look at telescope – Bronze The Grump of Christmas Passed unlocked
Exit left
Use yule log, gingerbread, stone toys, music, and eggnog with fire
Use spirit containment unit with festive spirit
Exit left x2, then enter green rift

Puritan Times
Exit up the hill
Use festive spirit with witch hunter general
Talk to witch
Exit left x2, then enter indigo rift

Gilded Age
Talk to witch – get zinc rod
You will automatically combine the rest of your inventory – get improvised battery
Combine improvised battery and broken torch – get super torch
Exit left, then enter orange rift

Use super torch with termite mound
Enter tomb

CASE 8: ONE FLEW INTO THE CUCKOO’S NEST

Outside Botanic House
Pick up gnome
Exit left to Hiking Trail

Hiking Trail
Click plaque on tree (1/9)
Pick up bunting (flags)
In inventory, combine bunting and gnome – get grapple
Exit up to Back Path

Back Path
Look at flowers (2/9)
Use grapple with tree
Pick up sports cap
Exit up, then right

Bird Nest
Pick up torch
Exit down ladder

Outside Botanic House
Look at flowers (3/9)
Use torch with dark vent
Exit left x2 to Hiking Trail

Hiking Trail
Pick up worn gloves
Exit left to Gate

Gate
Look at plaque in right bush (4/9)
Talk to Jenny
Tell them to reset the yellow and green switches, in that order.  If you mess up, tell them to reset them all.
Pick up red power cable
Exit through gate

Outside Gate
Talk to Jamie – exhaust conversation
Click squad car – get baseball
Exit through gate, then left to Rose Garden

Rose Garden
Look at left rose bush (5/9)
Use baseball with wind vane – get crowbar
Use crowbar with hatch, and exit down to Sewers

Sewer Entrance
Use power cable with power junction box
Exit right through large metal door

Water Treatment Room
Click generator button
Exit left and up to Gate, then exit right x3 to Outside Botanic House, then enter the Botanic House

Botanic House
Look at plaque under tree (6/9)
Pick up wellies (boots)
Exit left to Palm Trees

Palm Trees
There are three plaques to look at in this room (7-9/9) – Bronze Beautiful Nerd unlocked
Pick up duct tape (on window)
In inventory, combine duct tape and rubber gloves – get fixed rubber gloves
Use wellies and fixed rubber gloves with McQueen (yourself)
Exit right, leave the Botanic House, exit left x3 to Rose Garden, down the hatch and into the Water Treatment Room

Water Treatment Room
Pick up baby bird
Exit back outside, then right x4 to Outside Botanical House (ladder area), then up the ladder

Bird Nest
In inventory, combine Buzz’s hat with baby bird – get Buzz decoy
Use Buzz decoy with bird – get sickly decoy
Exit down ladder, then left, then enter the Botanical House, then exit left to Palm Trees

Palm Trees
Talk to groundskeeper – get shears
Use shears with obvious plant
Move the strings (drag the circles in the corners of the frame) so that the top/bottom row has the circles in the fourth and sixth holes, and so the left/right row has the circles in the second and third holes – get chewed leaves
Exit right and outside, then right and up the ladder

Bird Nest
Use chewed leaves with sickly decoy – get healthy decoy
Use healthy decoy with bird
Cutscenes – Silver Thunderstruck unlocked
