Highschool Romance Review

Welcome to Highschool! More importantly, an all girl’s school, as a boy! Developed by Dharker Studios and published by Gamuzumi for console! It released on September 9th, 2021!

*Disclaimer: A free code was provided to me by the publisher, for the purpose of this review. But this in no way affects my opinion. As my thoughts are mine and mine alone.

It’s your last year of Highschool, and your mother got you into a boarding school, and she and your father continue their work travelling. Little did you know, the school your mother selected for you, is an all girl’s school! Though she went there before and it was co-ed, but things changed. Now as Shoji, the only boy, you have to pretend to be a lady to fit in, so as to not cause any ruckus! Can you do it? Will you make it through the school year?

So this game is a Visual Novel, first and foremost. But the second you load up the game, you may realize something is…off. Maybe the font? Or the colour of some words? Nope. It’s the characters’ faces. They look so…odd. Kind of like they belong in some weird cartoon. Or someone just hasn’t figured out how to fully draw faces yet. For one of the characters, the dialogue is even hard to read, because it’s orange on a red background! But faces aside, we’ll hop into the story! So as I said, as Shoji, you are trying to get through your final year of high school, in an all girl’s school. So you have to dress the part right? Skirt, blouse, hair done up. Except it gets weirder from there. Underwear and bra, weird. Not only that, you also share a change room with girls! Oh the dialogue in this game comes off very silly in some situations. But the story feels very rushed. One second Shoji is struggling to conform, then next thing you know, 2 weeks have gone by and he’s okay with everything!

He also meets some nice friends. Selina, the track star, and Hoshi, the top student of the school! Though with it being an entire school, you’d think there’d be more people he would talk to right!? Well there’s also the principal. Who may or may not be a predator…you know she’s young, but not how young. But one of the first things you can do in this choose your own adventure novel, is go shopping for underwear and bras with your principal! Woohoo! She’ll even try them on if you play your cards right. The game is very risqué in some parts. With very sexy dialogue, and some CG images of big breasts, but they’re all always covered, and the most you see is cleavage. Thanks for the censorship. But that’s basically what this game is. It’s just sexy. You get some bits here and there about how Shoji is coping with school life, and projects and stuff, but for the most part it’s all about romance. What do you wanna do with these girls? Who do you want to get with? You know, cuz it’s just that easy to get a boyfriend/girlfriend.

As for character development? Well there isn’t much. You try to hide that you’re a man, get comfortable wearing Ladies clothing, and the side characters just remain the same. A track star, and a shy top tier student. If there’s one thing I wish DharkerStudios could do with their shorter Visual Novels, it’s figure out how to make character development. Instead of having cardboard cut-outs. Yes the dialogue was still good for what it was. But I guess I just want deeper, richer characters. This also suffers from the issue all DharkerStudios games have. No route chart! I’ve said it again and again and again. Especially with the Bounce series by the same devs. I don’t care if there’s only 3 endings and it takes 5 hours to see all the best endings. What about the bad endings? I wanna know man! Plus it has a weird glitch where if you don’t quit to the main menu, then turn the game off, you lose all your CG Gallery.

Some of the scenes that play out though in the 5 hours of reading did have me chuckling a bit. On the route for a character, you dress up as a maid, and it can get very sexy, very quick. Or there’s another scene where a character intentionally hurts you, so you can shower with them, so they can prove their suspicions right, that you are a man. You get to decide if it’s worth telling the truth, or just hiding. Though I will say, I wish there were funnier looking CG Gallery images. As I said earlier, mostly just sexy pictures. So when I unlocked a picture, I was making sure I was alone for the whole time it was on screen. Is that cringe? Seems pretty cringe.

Rating: 5 out of 10.

  • Funny Dialogue
  • Sexy CG Gallery Images

  • Weird Faces
  • No Route Chart
  • Rushed Story
  • Small Choice Of Love Interests

Would I say this VN was an absolute hit? Not really. It was a nice afternoon of reading, that had me giggling a few times. But with a rushed story, no true character development, and very few love interests, there wasn’t much of a hook. But some scenes were worth the read, and the images were very saucy.

So I’m not sure what I expected from a VN that tries to be lewd. At this rate you’d think I’d know better right? Would I recommend this? On sale for sure.{The Summary piece}

  1. It sounds like a lot laughs. I mean, a boy going to an all girl school. So he has to dress and poses as well because of mixup. And I like the animation. It’s different. I mean, it still very anime (if not a little H too 😅). But I believe I would like the story.
