Introduction
Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars is a RPG developed by Alim and published by Square Enix for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and Microsoft Windows.
Review
Voice of Cards is the perfect blend of a card game, turn based RPG, and feeling like a DnD campaign made by Yoko Taro. It has a single voice actor who acts as the game’s Game Master and does such a lovely job of narrating literally everything.
It has random event cards, equipment, skills, with elemental magic, and a small but fleshed out cast of party members.
The World building is top notch and it needs to be based on how the game works. Honestly the combat is very easy and requires no grinding, the only medium challenging fights is the final form of the final boss and the optional extra boss after finishing the game.
The good news is it let’s you use whatever party members you want! The trophies are honestly very easy with only two requiring any level of luck for gambling and a good outcome in one of the random events.
Overall the atmosphere, soundtrack, and game master make this game so easy to get lost in that it’s hard to put down once you get into it.
Rating
Pros:
- Fantastic world building
- Creative story-telling
- Wonderful soundtrack
Cons:
- High encounter rate
- Combat can get repetitive
- Only 5 party members
Summary
Classic Yoko Taro drips from this game, and actually is a bit happier then his usual stuff. With 4 endings and the true ending requiring a small dash of work, there’s a lot to see in this world and I can’t wait for the next game!
