Rain On Your Parade Review

Rain On Your Parade was developed by indie studio Unbound Creations. It was released to PC, Xbox One, and Switch on April 15th, 2021.

Have you ever wanted to be a cloud that ruins people’s day? An absolute party pooper? This game is perfect for you! The game is set up as a story that a grandfather is telling to his grandchild as a bedtime story. You are Cloudy The Cloud, and you venture to the mythical land of Seattle! Dr Dryspell is trying to make the city dry and barren, and it’s up to you to put a stop to his plans, by bringing water to every part of the city!

The story does not take itself too seriously at all, and each level kind of has its own self contained story in a way. Throughout your journey, the game will cut to the grandfather and child, and he will tell the child of how Cloudy becomes more powerful. Picking up abilities like snow, or tornados. It’s such a silly child story that I couldn’t help but smile and laugh the whole time. It even breaks the fourth wall and makes pop culture references. I know, “a lot of things do that. Who cares!”. But this did it so well I laughed every time. Though I do wish there was more to the story, at the same time it didn’t overstay its welcome. At least there is DLC coming with more stories and levels!

There are 50 levels that you get to cause havoc through, and each of them is just as crazy as the last. Some of them have unique objectives to them, whereas others are just simple like “make everyone wet”. Some of my favourite levels included nods to some games or TV shows. Like one level that was cantered entirely around the TV show “The Office”. Or another level that was an homage to Metal Gear Solid. There were some levels that were silly little minigames. Like how long can you go without moving? Or how high of a bowling score can you get? There was no level that I hated, mostly because they were all unique, or it was just fun causing chaos.

With each level having their own objectives, there were some levels that had hidden objectives too. Like get rid of all the crows from the trees. Or entirely destroy a news room. There were some “open world” levels that once you finish the most important objectives, you could leave the level or finish all the other side ones. If you manage to complete every objective in a level, you end up getting cosmetics to customize your little cloud with. So you could have a dinosaur hat and a chainsaw for example. They didn’t do anything special except make me laugh. To change your clothes you go into a “Cloud House” as well. As you finish levels, your house fills up with items. Like an arcade cabinet that is an homage to Doom! Yes you get to play a first person shooter where you play as a cloud!

Between each level you get to fly around an overworld. This is a fantastically crafted world with little secrets to find. You can grow a flower to get a cosmetic, or you can find the Loch Ness monster in the water to talk to. Sure it’s not jammed pack with secrets, it was still fun finding all the secrets I could! After you beat the game, you also get access to New Game+. This adds extra objectives and challenges to the levels that you can take part in. I only did one level myself, but there are 49 other levels I could replay in case I want to play it again, or show someone else how crazy the game is. So yes the normal run time is short, the game length doubles because of the added challenges, and I love it!

Rating: 10 out of 10.

  • Amazing Levels
  • Fun Crafted World
  • Tons Of Cosmetics

  • Short Run Time

That’s right, you read this properly. I am giving this game a perfect score. It doesn’t overstay its welcome, but it can also be longer if you’d like. The levels are a fun variety of homages and havoc. The story is a great and silly child’s story that doesn’t take itself too seriously in the slightest, and I had so much fun completing every side objective in the levels just to be able to get all the cosmetics. I cannot wait for the DLC to this game to drop and I’m oh so happy to have tried it. If you have the opportunity, play this game. You won’t regret it!
