Umfend is an indie horror video game developed and published by Aihasto. It was released on PlayStation 4 on October 29, 2023.
Review
The glass sphere burst in the night of 1996. The world of distortion opened its gates and took away from you someone very important. However, in 2005, the past emerges again to hunt you once more. An atmospheric horror about love and time.
I thought I would do a quick review of Umfend. It’s a very short game, takes around 30-40 minutes to complete, shorter with a guide. I found it very relatable and even though it’s a horror – it’s has a lot of charm and intriguing visuals.
Most of the time you have no idea what’s going on, which is on point as neither does the unnamed main character. You follow as he experiments with a time machine. During his time travel, he comes across a girl named Anita, she says she knows him, but he has no recollection as to who she is.
As the game continues, you get to know that Anita has feelings for this boy, and her love and mystery unravel as you play and the truth unfolds.
Lots of weird noises and jump scares – with a heartfelt story at the centre. I enjoyed it – the art and visuals were interesting and the bizarreness to them just added to the chaos of the story and the emotional rollercoaster the game takes you on.
