Baldur’s Gate 3 Review

Introduction

Baldur’s Gate 3 is a role-playing video game developed and published by Larian Studios.  It is the third main game in the Baldur’s Gate series, based on the tabletop role-playing system of Dungeons & Dragons.  It was released on PC August 2, and PS5 on September 6, 2023.

Review

If you’re into Dungeons and Dragons in ANY way, you’ll most likely enjoy this game.  It’s turn-based which is helpful so at least you can have the necessary time needed to set up your attack and organise your party – and you’re going to need all the time possible.

It offers a huge open-world welcome with dozens of side quests and NPCs to talk to – you almost feel like you’re actually one of the many citizens of Faerûn.

Multiplayer is also a huge feature – play with up to three friends, or play with one and each have one of the origin characters by your side.

Gameplay is a little janky at times and I had a few frozen screens, and towards the end of the main story the audio disappeared.  Almost every battle included a freeze or two when a spell was cast or a swing of a great axe was made.  Though aside from being a little annoying, it didn’t affect my enjoyment much.

The game is split into three Acts, and each Act includes it’s own main and side quests, along with foes and lots and lots of lockpicking.  I finished the game in about 157 hours. Which included a lot of side quests and also part of another playthrough.

There are also six origin characters that you can either choose to roleplay as from the start, or you can meet them throughout the game at different locations.  They can be recruited to join your party or wait for you at your camp.  You can have three other members in your party if you choose (maximum is 4 including you).  They also come with their own backstory and quests, so be sure to check them out as they’re great fun to see through.

Super fun and super interactive.  I won’t say too much as we’ll be here all day and I don’t want to spoil the awaiting adventure – I will just say that I highly recommend!
