Review

Replikator is a twin-stick shooter that offers plenty of variety within its gameplay. You will need to clear levels of all the bad guys to advance further, whilst collecting a plethora of upgrades, key cards & weapons to purchase more within the “Implant Slots”.

The game itself guides you in gently with the offering of a training module, which is a great way to start this sort of game for beginners. There are plenty of readable guides within the training level that teach you what you are collecting, and what they do within the game itself, giving you valuable knowledge before starting your journey.

The whole game can be completed on easy mode but have no fear those experts out there as there is harder difficulties available; however, with easy mode you are given 5 additional objects within the game, rather than the 3 within classic mode as an example.

The premise is simple; defeat all the needed enemies and then make your way to the exit; however, the game offers much more than this as it is filled with upgrades, more than you’ll ever need to be honest, and offers a massive variety of gameplay layers when it comes to the enemies. There are many occasions where you will need to get through a room but are unable to progress so need to head back another way. This keeps the flow of the game and keeps you intrigued long enough to the able to play the couple of hours needed in order to obtain the platinum or 100%.

Trophies wise we are looking at a mixed bag here as we will have to fight our way through a couple of bosses (sounds simple…, but to get the platinum trophy we are going to need to do a lot more than just beat the bosses. You’ll need to collect enough cubes to be able to get everything needed in the game, and survive long enough to be able to work you way through all the rooms.

Don’t fret though, as you can take your time and backtrack to collect more cubes via the destroying of the environment around you.

Rating

Rating: 5 out of 10.

Pros:

  • Smash n’ Grab Style of Gameplay
  • Smooth Feel to Movement
  • Initial ‘Wow’ Factor

Cons:

  • Amount of Upgrades
  • Repetitive After a While

Summary

Overall Replikator started out pretty well, I enjoyed clearing out all of the rooms, smashing up the environment and generally just ploughing through the game without a care in the world, however within about half an hour I did find the music and gameplay become a bit repetitive and and predictable.

It was decent enough for the price range, and I would urge you to try it for yourself, as it may just not have been for me.
