Introduction

Welcome to the A Short Hike trophy guide!
In A Short Hike, you play as a curious little birdie named Claire who is sent to stay with her Aunt May for the summer. While there’s plenty to do around the island, there’s only one thing on Claire’s mind: her cellphone. More specifically, she’s expecting a very important call. The problem is that there is no reception on the island except for the very top of Hawk Peak, the tallest mountain on the island that Claire has never climbed before. The call is important enough for her to get over her fears and make her way up to the summit. Along the way, she’ll be aided by the townsfolk and Park Rangers who will give her information on what she needs to climb the mountain. She’ll need all the help she can get as this is one big adventure for such a small bird but one that will prove to be more than worth it in the end.

Pixel size while playing: When you start the game, you’ll be in a pixelated world that has some of the blockiest pixels you may have ever seen. Fear not, as this is not permanent. You can change the pixel size in the Options menu. The smaller the pixels, the cleaner the graphics will be so play around with them and choose the size that best works for you. You might be ok with the default settings but please bear in mind that some of the collectibles might be more difficult to see on this setting.

Roadmap

Step 1: Play through the game
The main quest of the game is simple and can actually be done pretty quickly. Your main goal is to reach the summit of Hawk Peak. You’ll need about 7-8 Golden Feathers to reach the top so outside of climbing the mountain itself, that’s the only other thing you really need to worry about. When you reach the summit, Hawk Peak Gold will unlock. Afterward, you need to go back to your Aunt May’s house (where you started the game) and take a break. This will end the game and after the credits roll, The End Gold will unlock. From here, hit “continue” on the main menu. You’ll pop back into the game and will be able to clean up everything else.

After this step, the following trophies will unlock:
Hawk Peak Gold
The End Gold

Step 2: Clean-up
Now that you’re in free roam, you can clean up everything else trophy-related. The locations of all of the collectibles and where to find the miscellaneous trophies are all provided under their respective trophy descriptions so please see each individual trophy for more information on earning them.

After this step, you will earn:
Feather Finder Silver
Feathers Forever Gold
The Fish Are Biting Today Gold
Parkour Master Gold
Not A Scratch Gold
Green Thumb Gold
Crispy Gold
Only You Can Prevent Campfires Gold
Remember This Day Forever Gold
Photo Friends Gold
Vacation Maximized 40-platinum

Hawk Peak Gold

Story Related.

The main goal of the game is to get to the top of Hawk Peak and stand on the summit. As soon as you do so, you’ll get a call. The trophy will unlock during the dialogue.

The End Gold

Story Related.

After you reach the summit and earn Hawk Peak Gold, fly back down to where your Aunt May and house are (where you actually started the game) and interact with the house. Choose to take a break and the game will end. When the credits are done and you’re back on the main menu, the trophy will unlock. Freeplay will still be available after you complete the game, just hit “Continue” on the main menu.

Feather Finder Silver

See Feathers Forever Gold.

Feathers Forever Gold
Find every feather.

There are a total of 22 Feathers you need to collect; 20 Golden and 2 Silver. You’ll need a total of 980 Coins for 8 of them so be sure you’re collecting all of the coins you come across in the game. You can also sell Fish to the Boat Captain on the Eastern side of the island, though keep in mind that he’ll only buy one of each type of Fish (it’ll still net you a pretty good penny). The locations of all of the Fish are shown in the map below. If you prefer to use a video guide, one has been provided just below the map.

ASHMapFeathers

1. Just next to Aunt May’s House
2-3. The Visitor’s Center. You can buy 2 from the Park Ranger for 40 Coins each.
4. Just next to the Visitor’s Center
5. There is a plastic shovel here that you can pick up, then bring it back East along the coast until you meet a Frog building sand castles. Speak with him and you’ll trade the toy shovel for an actual one. Leave the area and come back. There will be a few more sand castles in the area. Speak to the Frog and exhaust the dialogue. Leave the area and come back. There will be even more sand castles now and the Feather will be on top of the one by the water.
6. Among the trees
7. Along the cliffside
8. In a chest just next to the Lookout Point
9. In a chest on top of the tower
10. Play a game of stickball and get a score of at least 10
11. Complete the Boating Challenge once
12. Along the cliffside
13. Just above the tree in the graveyard where you start one of the Parkour races
14. Dig a hole at the end of the shadow of the Lighthouse to dig up a chest. The Feather is inside the chest.
15-18. You can buy 4 Feathers from the bird at the cliff leading up to Hawk Peak for 100 coins each.
19. On top of the Lighthouse
20. There is a Painter located here that you need to talk to. When you do, she’ll move. Meet her again at the Lighthouse, followed by the “mouth” of the Western river, then the Graveyard, then the Lookout Point and finally the Visitor’s Center. After you talk with her the final time, you’ll get the Feather.
21 (Silver). Just North of the Visitor’s Center is an RV down by a small pond. Speak with the Mouse and she’ll tell you about her missing watch. Go to the bird at the cliff leading up to Hawk Peak (where you got Feathers 15-18). You’ll need to give him 400 Coins, then he’ll give you the watch. Return the watch to the Mouse and she’ll give you the feather.
22. On the very top of the Mountain on this small island.

The Fish Are Biting Today Gold
Trade every species of fish from the journal.

While there are quite a plethora of different types of fish you can catch in the game, you only need 14 for this trophy. You basically need each “species” of fish and not their variants. To actually unlock the trophy, you’ll be collecting the fish and selling them to the Boat Captain on the boat off the Eastern coast of the island. After you sell 2-3 fish, he’ll give you a Fisherman’s log that will track which fish you still need. The 14 fish you need (and where you can get them) are all listed below.

  • Spotted Brook Trout
  • Brook Trout
  • Albino Brook Trout
  • Catfish (at the top of the waterfalls where the water runs calmly)
  • Salmon (at the bottom of waterfalls)
  • Common Carp (you’ll automatically get this when you learn how to fish the first time)
  • Northern Pike
  • Rainbow Trout
  • White Bass
  • Bluegill
  • Burbot (in the rough river waters)
  • Crayfish
  • Pumpkinseed Fish
  • White Perch (at the top of the waterfalls where the water runs calmly)
  • Yellow Perch

Parkour Master Gold
Beat each parkour race once.

There are 3 parkour races you’ll need to win for this trophy. All of them are started by talking with Avery but if she’s not there, you’ll need to come back later. There is a pair of Running Shoes you can get from a short quest that will make you run faster but these are far from being necessary. If you don’t have them, Avery will just ask if you’re sure you want to race without them. Just say yes and start each race (they’re not too terribly difficult to win). You can do these in any order so long as Avery is present. Once you’ve won all 3 races, the trophy will unlock.

The locations of the races are as follows:

Race 1: Royal Ridge. There will be a tree with a white ribbon tied around it. The race will start here and end at the Lighthouse. Avery will stick to running but you’ll go much quicker if you fly. Just keep an eye on your Feathers as you’ll only have 3 available to use for this race.

Race 2: Graveyard. Up above the Eastern side of the Graveyard will be a tree with a white ribbon tied around it. The race will start here and end at the abandoned building to the Northeast. Just as with the 1st race, Avery will stick to running but if you fly, you’ll beat her by a decent amount of time. You’ll get 5 Feathers to use for this race so be sure to keep an eye on them and touch the ground should you need to replenish them.

Race 3: Visitor’s Center. This one will be just Southwest of the Visitor’s Center. It’ll start here and will end at the summit of Hawk Peak. As with the previous 2 races, Avery will stick to running along the main path but you can fly and climb up everywhere, allowing you to get well ahead of her. You’ll have 9 Feathers to use for this race, which will be more than enough to get you to the summit quickly. When you get to the snow area, be sure to use the hot springs and/or fire pits to replenish your Feathers since they’ll become frozen in the cold.

Not A Scratch Gold
Complete the boating challenge in under 45 seconds.

You’ll need to finish a prerequisite quest before you’ll be able to get this trophy. Just North of the main island will be a Boat Rental hut. You’ll need to pay 100 Coins to “rent the boat out” but once you pay, you’ll actually get the keys to the boat and will have access to it forever. Just in front of the hut is a very dramatic kid woeing about the troubles of a child. Speak with him and offer to take him for a ride. When you’re in the boat, ride around at full speed for a few seconds, then stop and talk to the kid. He’ll tell you about a challenge he’s set up and urges you to try it out. Agree to do so and about halfway through, you’ll jump off a ramp and the boat will take a bit of damage. You’ll need to speak to the Boat Captain on the ship just East of the main island to fix it. Once it’s all fixed, speak with the kid again and now you’ll be able to actually attempt the challenge.

To get 45 seconds (or less), you need to have the boost on at almost all times and avoid hitting any obstacles (10 seconds will be added to the timer each time you hit something). The only part you should really be slowing down on is the narrow passageway where the ramp from earlier was but everything else can be blasted through. The controls of the boat are very tank-y and whichever direction you push the stick in is what direction the boat will go in so just keep that in mind as you’re racing around. Once you complete the course, and if you’ve done it 45 seconds or less, the trophy will unlock.

Green Thumb Gold
Water every sprout.

There are a total of 27 Sprouts that you’ll need to water so they turn into flowers/”bouncepads”. These will all be out in the open but you’ll need to collect about 7-8 Golden Flowers before you can reach the ones on the top of Hawk Peak (see Feathers Forever Gold for their locations). Once you’ve watered all 27 Sprouts, the trophy will unlock.

The locations of the Sprouts are shown below. The 1st Sprout you get is right next to the Bucket you’ll need to collect water in (just run into any body of water to fill it up). If you prefer to use a video guide, one has been provided underneath the map.

ASHMapSprout

Crispy Gold
Eat a piece of toast.

A Short Hike plays in real time so you’ll either need to wait for 5 PM to roll around naturally or you can change your PS’s system clock to show 5 PM. Once you’re ready, head over to the Visitor’s Center (Midwestern area of the island). Just by the building is a sign. Read the sign and take note of the message about “Strawberries at 5 PM”. Speak with the Park Ranger and ask her about the Strawberries. You’ll have a bit of bad luck and they’ll be all out but for your troubles, she’ll offer you a slice of toast. Open your inventory, select the Toast, then choose “eat”. Once you’ve finished your small meal, the trophy will unlock.

Only You Can Prevent Campfires Gold
Put out 4 campfires.

You’ll need your bucket for this trophy (see Green Thumb Gold for its location). Scattered throughout the island are about 6-7 campfires that you can put out by pouring water on them. For this trophy, you need to put out 4 Campfires. Luckily, it doesn’t need to be 4 unique Campfires and you can just put the same one out 4 times. Make your way to the Visitor’s Center (Midwestern area of the island). There is a Campfire here with a small pond just South of it. Put out the fire and walk away. The Park Ranger will reignite the fire, allowing you to put it out again. Repeat this until you’ve put the 4th Campfire out and after you get scolded by the Ranger, the trophy will unlock.

Remember This Day Forever Gold
Get the commemorative hat.

On the Northwestern coast of the island, you’ll find a Volleyball Court with two friends looking to play a game. Instead of Volleyball, they’ll ask you to play the super new and super fun Stickball! You’ll need to equip a stick before you can play (there’s one on the court in case you haven’t picked one up yet) but the concept of the game is simple. You and the other player will need to hit the ball back and forth without allowing it to touch the ground. While you’re supposed to be cooperating, the other player tends to go a little wild here and there so be sure to spring( square.png )if you need to.

When the two of you get 10 hits back and forth, you’ll be rewarded a Golden Feather.
When you two get 20 hits back and forth, you’ll be rewarded with some money.
When you two get 30 hits back and forth, you’ll be rewarded a commemorative hat and the trophy will unlock (after some dialogue).

Photo Friends Gold
Get your photo taken.

This will be a 2-part trophy. You’ll need to have picked up at least 7-8 Feathers to get this. You will also need to reach the summit at least once before you can do the second part.

Part 1: At the bottom of Hawk Peak, just near where the cliff sides start to get steep, there will be a Fox that you can talk to.

ASHMapPhoto

Exhaust the conversation with him until he tells you that he wants to reach the top of the mountain to take some photos.

Part 2: After the conversation ends, make your way up the mountain and just before the summit, you’ll run into the Fox again, just next to a broken bridge. Speak with him and he’ll ask you if you made it to the summit, then will ask to borrow 6 Feathers so he, too, can reach the top. Lend him the feathers, then make your way to the top of the mountain. Wait for him to join you and start talking to him. After a bit of back and forth, he’ll offer to take your picture. When he does, the trophy will unlock.
